Badger Meter Shares Slide as Second Quarter Earnings Contract

A 15% plunge in Badger Meter stock followed the company’s latest quarterly report, which revealed a sharp contraction in both revenue and operating earnings. Shares traded at $124.45 as investors reacted to the water technology firm's struggle to maintain its financial momentum during a difficult second quarter.

Badger Meter Shares Slide as Second Quarter Earnings Contract

Revenue fell 7% to $222.3 million, narrowly outpacing the $220.6 million consensus among analysts polled by FactSet. The company’s bottom line took a harder hit, with operating earnings dropping 12% to $39.4 million. Net income for the period reached $29.7 million, or $1.02 per share, down from the $34.6 million, or $1.17 per share, recorded during the same timeframe last year.

Chief Executive Kenneth Bockhorst remains optimistic about the remainder of the fiscal year, pointing to a robust pipeline of awarded projects set to materialize in the coming months. He also cited progress in integrating UDlive, noting that early commercial interest in the acquisition shows promise. Bockhorst expects revenue run-rates to improve as the year closes, though full-year projections, excluding acquisitions, remain largely flat compared to previous estimates.
