First Reliance Bancshares Reports Q2 2026 Results Amid Merger Plans

Florence-based First Reliance Bancshares saw its net income dip to $2.8 million in the second quarter of 2026, a 23.2% decline from the previous year, even as the bank expanded its loan portfolio and prepared for a $5 billion asset merger with Georgia’s Colony Bank.

The company reported diluted earnings of $0.34 per share for the quarter ending June 30, down from $0.44 during the same period in 2025. Despite the drop in net income, operating earnings rose to $3.1 million, or $0.38 per share, compared to $2.2 million in the prior year. Growth was evident in the firm's lending operations, where total loans held for investment climbed by $19.5 million to reach $820.7 million, marking a 9.8% annualized growth rate.

Asset quality showed significant improvement, with nonperforming assets falling to $626,000—just 0.06% of total assets—down from $2.1 million at the end of the first quarter. CEO Rick Saunders attributed the strength to the successful collection of a major nonperforming loan. Looking ahead, the bank is positioning for its strategic partnership with Colony Bank, a deal expected to close in the fourth quarter of 2026, which will create a combined institution with nearly $5 billion in assets.
