Oxford-based Moa Technology secures £22.2 million for herbicide innovation

Agricultural biotechnology firm Moa Technology has raised £22.2 million in a Series C funding round co-led by Oxford Science Enterprises and Supernova Invest. The capital infusion arrives as the company accelerates its mission to combat rising weed resistance through proprietary platforms that have already identified 80 novel modes of action.

The investment marks a significant endorsement for the Oxford University spin-out, which has spent the last two years securing R&D collaborations with industry heavyweights including Corteva Agriscience, Nufarm, Gowan, and Certis Belchim. These partnerships underscore a market-wide shift toward finding new chemical solutions as traditional herbicides struggle against resistant weed populations.

Moa plans to utilize the fresh capital to push its three most advanced programs toward commercialization while expanding its pipeline of early-stage assets. A core focus will remain on the development of 'Moa Amplifiers,' a product category introduced in 2025 that functions by increasing the efficacy of existing treatments, potentially reducing the total volume of chemicals required in field applications.

Existing backers, including Lansdowne Partners and Parkwalk, joined new participants such as the Agri Investment Fund and Australia’s GrainInnovate in this round. According to CEO Dr. Virginia Corless, the inclusion of farming-sector investors serves as a critical link between laboratory breakthroughs and the practical realities of global agricultural production, where climate-driven weed pressures are increasingly threatening crop yields.
