Koloma Secures Third Hydrogen Exploration Contract in the Philippines

The Philippine government has granted Denver-based Koloma exclusive exploration rights in western Zambales Province, marking the company’s third service contract in the region. This expansion follows two initial agreements signed last October, bringing the firm’s total exploration footprint in the country to over 1,600 square miles.

The project represents a strategic push to identify indigenous, zero-emission fuel sources that could stabilize the national power grid and bolster agricultural sectors. Secretary of Energy Sharon S. Garin noted that the initiative carries no direct financial burden for taxpayers, positioning the archipelago as a potential regional energy hub.

Koloma currently operates across four continents, utilizing proprietary geological datasets to identify hydrogen deposits. CEO Pete Johnson stated that the company’s ongoing work in Central Luzon serves as the foundation for this latest expansion. If commercial viability is proven, the exploration could fundamentally alter the country's energy security landscape by reducing reliance on imported fuels.
