PG&E Reports Earnings Growth and Progress on Wildfire Safety

PG&E Corporation remains on track to hit its 2026 financial targets, posting second-quarter GAAP earnings of $0.33 per share. The Oakland-based utility reported a steady increase in profitability compared to the previous year, supported by ongoing infrastructure investments and a reduction in operating and maintenance costs.

The company’s non-GAAP core earnings reached $0.40 per share for the quarter, up from $0.31 in the same period last year. With these results, leadership reaffirmed its full-year guidance of $1.64 to $1.66 per share. A key driver for this performance has been the utility's focus on capital investment and net savings in maintenance, even as it manages increased expenses related to the state's wildfire fund.

Operational milestones include the launch of a new Continuous Monitoring Center, which utilizes machine learning to identify grid risks. According to the company, this technology has successfully prevented 28 potential ignitions since early 2025. Additionally, the utility reported a 60% reduction in methane emissions across its natural gas system compared to 2015 levels. CEO Patti Poppe noted that the firm is actively pursuing wildfire liability reform in California to provide a more stable long-term framework for both customers and investors.
