Cemex Profit Climbs on Record EBITDA and Price Gains

A 9% jump in quarterly profit has prompted Monterrey-based Cemex to lift its annual earnings outlook. The building materials giant reported net income of $347 million for the second quarter, fueled by aggressive pricing strategies and a record-setting performance in earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation, and amortization.

Cemex Profit Climbs on Record EBITDA and Price Gains

Cemex saw its total sales grow 12% to $4.59 billion during the April-June period. While cement volume edged up by 1% to 11.3 million metric tons, the company’s bottom line benefited significantly from a 24% surge in EBITDA, which reached $1.02 billion. This record figure was bolstered by organic growth, $60 million in cost savings, and a $42 million boost from a one-off legal settlement in Europe.

Management now projects full-year EBITDA growth of 16% to 17%, a sharp revision from earlier expectations of high single-digit increases. This optimism is tied to the company's internal efficiency program, Project Cutting Edge. Having already secured 80% of its initial $400 million savings target, the firm has raised that goal to $475 million, with the bulk of the additional gains projected to materialize by 2027.
