A graduate of the Colorado School of Mines, Buell holds a Bachelor of Science in Petroleum Engineering alongside dual Master of Science degrees in Mineral Economics and Petroleum Engineering. Throughout his tenure, he has served as a distinguished lecturer for the Society of Petroleum Engineers and played a pivotal role in Chevron’s Southern Africa Business Unit, where he managed production forecasting and supervised large-scale operations involving hundreds of wells.
His technical contributions focus on thermal horizontal well design, fiber optic flow profiling, and post-yield tubular design. As a prolific innovator, Buell has secured numerous patents and authored twenty-five technical papers on steam injection and advanced completion methods. Beyond his engineering work, he maintains certification as a decision analysis expert and an ISO 9001 auditor, balancing his professional commitments with a rigorous personal life that includes completing the world major marathons and climbing high-altitude peaks across the globe. He now shifts his focus toward mentoring future engineers and pursuing further adventure projects.
