CM Global Services Launches 50-Megawatt AI Data Center in Texas

A new 50-megawatt data center campus, dubbed Project Santos, is set for the ERCOT South grid zone as CM Global Services shifts its infrastructure expertise toward AI. The project aims to provide specialized GPU-as-a-Service capacity to enterprise clients and neocloud providers, starting with an initial 7-megawatt phase.

The expansion marks a strategic pivot for the Denver-based logistics and hardware firm, which has long served as a partner to Compass Mining. Shanon Squires, Chief Mining Officer at Compass Mining, unveiled the plans at the Energy Investors Forum, framing the initiative as a disciplined transition into AI inference workloads. The company intends to source NVIDIA GB300 Blackwell GPUs to power the site, bypassing the traditional model of requiring clients to supply their own hardware.

Execution will occur in two distinct stages. The first phase, a 5-megawatt IT load Tier III facility, is scheduled for completion by the end of the first quarter of 2027. This will be followed by a 43-megawatt expansion to reach the full 50-megawatt capacity. Managing Director Vishnu Mackenchery noted that the project is designed to carve a unique path in the compute market, catering specifically to organizations seeking dedicated or multi-tenant AI infrastructure.
