Columbia Banking System Reports $208 Million in Second Quarter Net Income

Columbia Banking System posted a net income of $208 million for the second quarter of 2026, as the Tacoma-based lender navigated a shifting interest rate environment through balance sheet optimization and a concerted effort to trim operational costs following its acquisition of Pacific Premier.

The company reported diluted earnings per share of $0.73 for the quarter ending June 30, 2026. CEO Clint Stein attributed the performance to disciplined expense management and a focus on core customer relationships. Non-interest expenses fell by $19 million compared to the previous quarter, a decline largely driven by the realization of cost synergies from the Pacific Premier merger and reduced restructuring outlays.

While the net interest margin dipped to 3.93%—impacted by $4 million in interest income reversals—the bank saw growth in commercial loan balances. Total assets stood at $65.4 billion as of June 30, with the firm maintaining a solid capital position, including a common equity tier 1 ratio of 11.6%. The bank also continued its capital return program, repurchasing $199 million of common stock during the quarter.
