The observational study, conducted across 11 clinics, tracked individuals with imaging-confirmed paraspinal degeneration who received one to three applications of the Wharton's Jelly allografts. Researchers utilized the Numeric Pain Rating Scale (NPRS) and the Western Ontario and McMaster Universities Arthritis Index (WOMAC) to measure progress from initial to final visits. Data indicated consistent improvement across all groups, with those receiving three applications showing the most substantial shifts: average NPRS scores dropped from 4.75 to 2.00, while WOMAC scores fell from 41.95 to 25.55. No adverse events or complications were reported during the investigation period.
The research team, including Conrad Tamea and Regenative Labs CEO Tyler Barrett, suggests that the collagen-rich extracellular matrix of the umbilical cord tissue provides a structural scaffold that mimics paraspinal connective tissue. By supplementing degenerated areas with this material, clinicians aim to provide an alternative to traditional conservative management. This study adds to the growing body of peer-reviewed literature regarding birth tissue sciences, emphasizing the need for evidence-based options for patients suffering from persistent musculoskeletal tissue damage.
