Gold touches $4,070 as June housing data beats consensus

A 1.6% rise in U.S. new home sales for June sparked a rally in precious metals, pushing spot gold to a session high of $4,069.98 per ounce. The uptick arrived despite a cooling annual trend, signaling resilience in a housing market long pressured by aggressive Federal Reserve rate hikes.

Gold touches $4,070 as June housing data beats consensus

The U.S. Census Bureau and the Department of Housing and Urban Development reported a seasonally adjusted annualized rate of 628,000 new home sales. While this figure fell short of a 3.4% growth projection, it comfortably surpassed the market consensus of 610,000 units. Revised data for May further bolstered the sector, lifting previous estimates from 580,000 to 618,000 units.

Despite the monthly gains, the sector remains sensitive to broader economic headwinds. Annual sales are down 5.6% compared to June 2025 levels of 665,000. Current inventory sits at 485,000 homes, which represents a 9.3-month supply at the prevailing sales pace. With the median new home price hitting $398,300, investors are monitoring these housing indicators as a barometer for the Federal Reserve’s future monetary policy. Following the 10 a.m. ET release, gold maintained its momentum, last trading at $4,061.76 per ounce, marking a 0.30% intraday gain.
