Newmont remains a focal point of this momentum, reporting a profit of $2.2 billion, or $2.06 per share, for the period. This marks a notable increase from the $2.06 billion, or $1.85 per share, recorded a year prior. While adjusted earnings of $2.10 per share managed to beat the $1.99 consensus estimate from FactSet analysts, the company's revenue of $6.12 billion fell short of the projected $6.36 billion.

Gold prices provided a complex backdrop for the miner's performance. The average realized price for the metal climbed to $4,414 an ounce, up significantly from $3,320 in the previous year. Despite this annual gain, the figure represents a decline from the $4,900 average selling price observed in the first quarter of the year, reflecting the cooling of the gold rally that characterized the start of 2024.
