Titled "From Access to Trust: What Twenty Years of Online Sample Teaches Us About Trustworthy Research," the eBook chronicles the shift from early telephone interviewing to the complex digital ecosystem of today. Knapton, who helped commercialize permission-based online panels, argues that while the tools of the trade have fundamentally transformed, the core requirement remains identifying respondents and verifying the integrity of their contributions.
The text outlines the progression of quality standards, moving from basic panel recruitment to modern requirements like behavioral signals, device intelligence, and cross-network validation. These measures are increasingly vital as AI-generated content complicates the research environment, making authentic human feedback more valuable. Steven Snell, Rep Data’s EVP and Head of Research, noted that the book codifies the principles currently guiding the firm’s data collection strategies.
Knapton and Snell are scheduled to discuss these findings during a session at The Quirk's Event in New York on July 29. The conversation will focus on the intersection of advanced validation technologies and the ongoing challenge of maintaining respondent quality in an AI-driven era.
