Hyundai and Children's National Partner to Expand Car Seat Access

A $25,000 investment from Hyundai Hope is set to bolster child passenger safety across the Washington, D.C. region. The collaboration with Children's National aims to eliminate financial barriers for families by distributing car seats and booster seats directly through community-based pediatric healthcare centers in D.C., Maryland, and Virginia.

The initiative addresses a critical public health gap, as motor vehicle crashes remain a leading cause of injury for children nationwide. While safety experts consistently cite the importance of properly installed restraints, many families struggle with the upfront costs of purchasing appropriate equipment. By integrating distribution into routine medical visits, the program ensures that safety resources reach those who need them most without requiring extra trips or specialized appointments.

Children's National will leverage its existing network—including Goldberg Primary Care Centers and regional outpatient clinics—to serve as Community Child Safety Hubs. Staff at these locations will provide both the hardware and the necessary guidance on correct installation and usage. According to Cole Stutz, chief safety officer at Hyundai Motor North America, the goal is to remove the obstacles that prevent caregivers from securing their children effectively. Dr. Cara Biddle, senior vice president of community pediatrics at Children’s National, noted that meeting parents during primary care appointments is the most efficient way to ensure long-term, consistent protection for young passengers.
