Denison Mines Begins Full-Scale Construction at Phoenix Uranium Mine

Denison Mines Corp. has officially transitioned its Phoenix In-Situ Recovery project in northern Saskatchewan from site preparation to full-scale construction. The milestone, reached following successful early works since March 2026, marks a critical step toward establishing Canada’s first new large-scale uranium mine in years.

The company has initiated the installation of the perimeter freeze wall for the first phase of the mine, a key technical requirement for the site. Having finalized essential site clearing and established construction management facilities, the project is now equipped to support a significantly expanded workforce. Temporary housing at the Wheeler River property has been bolstered to accommodate nearly 400 people, allowing for a 24-hour shift schedule to accelerate construction through the summer months.

Concrete production is set to ramp up in August, with foundation work for the main process plant and power substation serving as the immediate priority. According to President and CEO David Cates, over 20% of the site's civil work is already complete, with subgrade preparations for the wellfield and plant areas effectively finished. This progress positions the project to maintain momentum on earthworks for the site's airstrip and power distribution systems, moving the venture closer to its operational goals in the Athabasca Basin.
