The research, published in the Journal of Sports Science and Medicine, monitored 43 elite academy-level players through simulated matches. Brendon Skinner, the study’s lead author, noted that the typical post-halftime decline is primarily caused by a drop in core and muscle temperature rather than simple energy depletion. Passive resting during this window often results in a 7.5% decline in technical performance, alongside slower sprint times.
Players utilizing Therabody devices during the break demonstrated significantly different outcomes. Those using the Theragun saw a 2.4% improvement in technical scores, while PowerDot users showed enhanced accuracy and fewer errors under fatigue. Meanwhile, JetBoots helped athletes maintain their 20-meter sprint times, with perceived recovery metrics dropping by only 9.9%, compared to a 32.5% decline in the control group. These findings indicate that the halftime interval, traditionally reserved for tactical adjustments and nutrition, could function as a critical window for physiological maintenance.
