Northeast Indiana Bancorp, the parent company of First Federal Savings Bank, reported net income of $1.87 million for the second quarter of 2026. This performance marks a notable increase from the $1.64 million earned during the same period last year, driven by a rise in net interest income.

The Huntington-based lender saw its diluted earnings per share climb to $0.80, up from $0.69 in the second quarter of 2025. This growth in profitability was supported by a stronger net interest margin of 3.70%, compared to 3.35% a year prior. For the first six months of the year, the company’s net income reached $3.5 million, significantly outpacing the $2.7 million recorded in the first half of 2025.

Despite the earnings growth, the bank’s balance sheet saw a contraction in total assets, which dipped to $553.9 million from $559.3 million at the end of last year. Net loans also saw a decline, settling at $412.6 million. On the other hand, the company strengthened its capital position, as shareholders' equity rose to $56.7 million and the book value of NIDB stock improved to $24.11 per share by the end of June.
