Chubu Electric Power Profit Slumps Amid Operating Losses

Chubu Electric Power Co. reported a sharp decline in first-quarter net profit to 35.20 billion yen, down from 85.32 billion yen during the same period last year. Despite a slight increase in revenue to 825.84 billion yen, the Nagoya-based utility struggled with a significant operating loss totaling 25.06 billion yen.

The company's financial performance for the quarter ending June 30 reflects a challenging shift from the previous year, when the firm posted an operating profit of 67.93 billion yen. Pretax profit also saw a substantial contraction, falling to 27.14 billion yen compared to 104.83 billion yen in 2025.

Earnings per share dropped to 46.60 yen from 112.98 yen reported a year earlier. These results, calculated under Japanese accounting standards, highlight the impact of rising costs on the utility's bottom line despite the growth in top-line revenue figures.
