Modular Facility Keeps Northern California Trauma Center Operational

A major Northern California Level II Trauma Center has maintained surgical instrument processing during a critical department renovation by deploying the FlexSPD, a custom modular facility developed by RAD Technology Medical Systems and SteelcoBelimed that operates independently from the hospital's main building.

The temporary unit provides a full-scale sterile processing environment, housing high-capacity washer-disinfectors, sterilizers, ultrasonic cleaning equipment, and dedicated prep-and-pack workstations. By shifting these essential functions to an external modular structure, the hospital avoids the service disruptions typically associated with large-scale facility upgrades.

Kenneth Wright, Vice President of Sales at RAD, noted that the project addresses the complex logistical hurdles hospitals face when modernizing infrastructure. The facility was secured through an operating lease, allowing the health system to bypass immediate capital expenditure while ensuring that surgical and medical procedures continue without interruption. Dustin Dzwonkowski, President of SteelcoBelimed, emphasized that the collaboration aims to support both immediate clinical needs and long-term infrastructure planning through flexible, rapidly deployable systems.
