For the first time, the PLL and NLL are collaborating to ensure the top men’s players from both organizations are available to represent their countries. This inaugural tournament replaces the previous Championship Series on the competition calendar for the next two years, serving as a critical developmental platform for the sport's return to the Olympic stage after more than a century of absence. World Lacrosse and USA Lacrosse have officially sanctioned the event, which organizers hope will mirror the impact of major international showcases like the World Baseball Classic.

The initiative follows a $100 million Series E financing round for the PLL, led by Joe Tsai and Ares, intended to accelerate growth as the league prepares for the 2028 Olympics. According to PLL Co-Founder and President Paul Rabil, the games are designed to capture the intensity of historic national rivalries. NLL Commissioner Brett Frood emphasized that the synergy between the leagues is essential for building momentum and commercial value for the sport as it prepares for its Olympic debut.
