The collaboration leverages Vermeer’s eight decades of terrestrial industrial equipment experience to solve the unique challenges of lunar site preparation. Following the successful unveiling of a full-scale excavator prototype in May 2025, the teams are now focusing on autonomous mobility and surface stabilization tools. These systems are being designed to integrate with lunar rovers, with initial validation phases occurring on Earth before deployment to the Moon.
Rob Meyerson, CEO of Interlune, emphasized that repeatable, scalable systems are essential for both building infrastructure and harvesting lunar resources. Jason Andringa, President and CEO of Vermeer, noted that the initiative aligns with NASA’s broader Moon Base program, viewing the lunar environment as the most demanding job site in history. Beyond immediate lunar objectives, the companies intend to define the construction standards required for future expansion to Mars and other deep-space destinations.
