Microsoft Faces Class Action Lawsuit Over Alleged AI Revenue Inflation

A new class action lawsuit alleges that Microsoft misled investors by artificially inflating stock prices through a sustained campaign of optimistic claims regarding its AI products. The litigation targets share purchases made between May 1, 2025, and January 28, 2026, a period when MSFT valuation surged past $550.

The complaint, filed by the firm Levi & Korsinsky, contends that Microsoft’s leadership projected an image of unprecedented growth for its Copilot and Azure AI services while allegedly concealing significant technical failures. According to the filing, management touted record adoption rates among Fortune 500 companies and robust revenue gains, even as the products struggled with data siloing, interoperability limitations, and computational constraints.

Central to the lawsuit is the claim that Microsoft’s reported AI demand was underpinned by a circular revenue loop. The company reportedly funneled billions into partnerships with LLM providers like OpenAI and Anthropic, which in turn committed those same funds back into Microsoft’s Azure cloud platform. Plaintiffs argue this arrangement obscured a lack of genuine, independent market demand and misled shareholders about the sustainability of the company's AI-driven growth. As the market eventually recognized the discrepancy between executive statements and the reality of the company's AI offerings, the resulting repricing caused a significant evaporation of shareholder value. Investors seeking to participate in the class action must file by August 11, 2026.
