Worldline Trims Growth Outlook as Bank Hesitation Persists

French digital payments firm Worldline has downgraded its 2026 revenue growth forecast, citing a sluggish recovery in new business. Chief Executive Pierre-Antoine Vacheron admitted that banking clients are delaying contract awards, forcing the company to pivot from a previous expectation of low single-digit growth to a flat or marginally positive outlook.

The company’s struggle to regain momentum follows a turbulent period marked by profit warnings and allegations of money laundering, which severely eroded client trust. While second-quarter revenue remained flat, it marked the first time in eight quarters that the firm did not report a contraction. Vacheron noted that while the company is emerging from this cycle of skepticism, commercial activity remains slower than initially projected. Despite the cautious outlook, Worldline outperformed analyst expectations for the first half of the year, posting adjusted EBITDA of 294 million euros against a consensus estimate of 273 million euros.

Support from major shareholders—including Credit Agricole, BNP Paribas, and the French state investment bank Bpifrance—remains a cornerstone of the firm’s recovery strategy. The company has already executed a 500 million euro capital injection and various asset disposals to stabilize its position. Looking toward the end of the year, management anticipates the second half will show marginal improvement, bolstered by steady performance in its merchant services division. The firm also tightened its free cash flow guidance, now targeting a negative range between 40 million and 60 million euros.
