The partnership consolidates the entire rare earth lifecycle—from feedstock and separation to metallization and final magnet production—under one industrial framework. This effort gains urgency as the U.S. Department of Defense prepares to enforce a January 1, 2027, prohibition on Chinese-origin magnets. By integrating JS Link’s manufacturing capabilities with REalloys’ existing processing projects, the venture aims to provide a domestic alternative for the defense and high-tech sectors.
REalloys is simultaneously advancing its processing infrastructure, notably through a $20.6 million investment in the Saskatchewan Research Council’s facility, which is expected to begin commercial production in 2027. The company is also developing a heavy rare earth metallization operation—intended to be the largest outside of China—with qualification-scale materials anticipated by late 2026. These developments are supported by a diversified feedstock strategy, including agreements tied to deposits in Greenland, Montana, and Wyoming.
This industrial pivot arrives as Beijing intensifies export controls on dual-use materials, effectively tracking rare earth products to prevent them from reaching specific American firms. For major defense contractors like Kratos, Boeing, Northrop Grumman, and AeroVironment, the emergence of a domestic, non-Chinese mine-to-magnet ecosystem is becoming a critical requirement for maintaining supply chain security in an increasingly fragmented global market.
