MediSun and JA Partner to Deploy Solar-Powered Desalination

To tackle the chronic water scarcity and high carbon footprints of remote island infrastructure, MediSun Energy and JA have signed an agreement at the DRT Show in Chengdu. The partnership integrates solar energy with miniaturized desalination technology to provide an off-grid, zero-carbon water supply for coastal regions.

The collaboration centers on MediSun’s VASAR desalination units, which condense industrial-grade water production into a compact footprint. By pairing these systems with JA’s photovoltaic, battery storage, and smart energy platforms, the companies aim to bypass the need for traditional, land-heavy municipal infrastructure. This joint framework addresses the high operational costs, fuel dependency, and environmental risks typically associated with diesel-powered desalination in marine conservation zones.

Joseph Chua, president and co-founder of MediSun, noted that the core challenge has historically been the massive infrastructure surrounding desalination plants rather than the membrane technology itself. By shifting toward modular, AI-managed units, the companies intend to create a scalable blueprint for sustainable tourism and island development. Sure Liu, JA’s chief sustainability officer, emphasized that the initiative leverages the JAx ecosystem to extend clean power directly into essential water services, marking a transition from standalone solar hardware to integrated utility solutions.
