ARUP Laboratories Tracks Cyclospora Surge on National Dashboard

With 6,707 laboratory-confirmed cases of cyclosporiasis reported across 45 states, ARUP Laboratories has integrated real-time test positivity data into its national infectious disease dashboard. The move offers clinicians and public health officials a granular view of the outbreak as thousands of additional cases remain under investigation by the CDC.

The rapid spike in Cyclospora infections necessitated a more agile surveillance approach, according to Ben Bradley, MD, PhD, ARUP head of clinical operations for infectious disease. By incorporating this data, the laboratory aims to provide visibility that complements traditional reporting methods, allowing for faster responses to the escalating health crisis. The dashboard, which debuted in May 2026, functions as a public-facing tool for tracking pathogen trends through weekly updates, interactive maps, and localized charts.

Public health officials are currently monitoring an additional 11,500 suspected cases, intensifying the pressure on diagnostic infrastructure. ARUP developed the tracking platform with strict de-identification protocols to ensure patient privacy while maintaining the utility of the data for frontline workers. This expansion reflects a growing trend in private-sector involvement in national disease monitoring, filling gaps in the diagnostic landscape as the parasite spreads across a wide geographic range.
