Southwest Airlines Overhauls Corporate Travel with Priority Tiers

Southwest Airlines is moving to capture a larger share of the corporate travel market by introducing a new Business Priority product and expanded distribution capabilities. Starting in 2027, the airline will offer specific perks for business travelers alongside new technological integrations designed to streamline the booking process for corporate partners.

The airline’s new Business Priority offering targets managed travel programs by providing enhanced day-of-travel support, including preferred reaccommodation, standby options, and expedited boarding. This initiative aligns with broader cabin upgrades at Southwest, such as assigned seating, extra legroom, and high-speed Starlink connectivity, which the company is rolling out to meet shifting passenger expectations.

To facilitate these changes, Southwest is deepening its integration with third-party booking tools through New Distribution Capability (NDC) protocols. By late 2026, the carrier plans to launch an evolved in-house API, followed by a partnership with Amadeus Altéa NDC in 2027. According to Aileen Furlong, Vice President of Sales, these updates are intended to bridge the gap between corporate buyers and the airline's evolving service portfolio, ensuring that premium features are accessible across standard industry booking channels.
