The surge in e-commerce and large-scale infrastructure investment is fundamentally changing how fleets manage their tire assets. As retail e-commerce sales climb, parcel and grocery delivery networks are expanding their electric vehicle fleets, creating a unique set of challenges for tire manufacturers. Urban delivery routes, characterized by frequent braking and tight maneuvers, now necessitate specialized, reinforced designs that can withstand the high-scrub environments typical of last-mile logistics.
Beyond urban centers, long-haul freight continues to dominate the sector, with Class 8 heavy trucks serving as the primary drivers of demand. According to Lucas Harrison, lead automotive analyst at Radial Insights, procurement has evolved into a strategic productivity decision. Fleet operators are increasingly prioritizing total-cost-of-ownership metrics—such as fuel efficiency, digital monitoring capabilities, and retreadability—over simple purchase price. While retreading remains a vital strategy for sustainability and cost management, particularly in the United States, it creates a nuanced landscape where high-quality casing demand remains robust even as it competes with new tire volume growth. Asia-Pacific currently leads the global market, accounting for over 43% of demand, as infrastructure projects and industrial activity continue to accelerate across the region.
