Haier Expands Australian Open Partnership to Grassroots Tennis

Amateur tennis players now have a direct path to the Rod Laver Arena through a new partnership between appliance giant Haier and the Australian Open’s "AO 1 Point Slam" initiative, which aims to bridge the gap between local community courts and the professional Grand Slam stage.

The program invites tennis clubs, schools, and coaches nationwide to host qualifying events, turning local matches into feeders for the Australian Open Opening Week. Participants who advance will compete on the tournament's iconic main stage, with the club associated with the ultimate champion earning a development grant to foster local talent. Haier Vice President Wang Meiyan noted that the collaboration seeks to bring the prestige of a Grand Slam tournament directly to tennis communities.

Tennis Australia Chief Commercial Officer Cedric Cornelis stated that the project leverages Haier’s history of sports sponsorship to elevate a burgeoning competition format. For Haier, the move is the latest in a multi-decade strategy that includes partnerships with clubs like Liverpool FC and Paris Saint-Germain. By embedding its brand into global sporting culture, the company intends to refine its smart home product development through deeper engagement with international consumer lifestyles.
