TAE Technologies Secures Helium-3 Supply Deal for Fusion Power

TAE Technologies has entered a strategic partnership with Black Moon Energy Corporation to secure a future supply of helium-3, a critical fuel component for its fusion energy program. The agreement establishes a framework for fuel procurement as the company prepares to break ground on its first commercial fusion reactor, Da Vinci.

The deal signals a shift toward commercial readiness for the Foothill Ranch-based firm, which has spent nearly three decades refining its field-reversed configuration fusion technology. By securing an alternative fuel source, TAE gains operational flexibility, allowing it to move beyond the constraints of the traditional deuterium-tritium cycle that limits many competing reactor designs.

TAE CEO Michl Binderbauer emphasized that the collaboration provides a vital hedge against fuel market volatility. Black Moon Energy Corporation, which specializes in natural resource and lunar development, intends to leverage this partnership to validate the commercial viability of helium-3 extraction. TAE plans to launch its 50 MWe Da Vinci plant in 2031, with a site selection process currently underway. This infrastructure serves as a modular precursor to larger-scale facilities intended to generate between 350 and 500 megawatts of carbon-free electricity.
