COhatch Expands Coworking Focus to Suburban Neighborhoods

As the global coworking market tracks toward a projected $94 billion valuation by 2035, COhatch is marking International Coworking Day with a week of events across nine U.S. markets. The firm is shifting its strategy away from traditional downtown hubs, betting that the future of professional work belongs in suburban neighborhoods.

Between August 10 and 14, COhatch locations in cities including Atlanta, Cincinnati, Columbus, and Pittsburgh will host community-focused events ranging from ice cream socials to specialty coffee hours. These activations serve as a broader invitation for remote workers and small businesses to utilize free day passes, highlighting the company’s push to bridge the gap between corporate headquarters and home offices.

CEO and co-founder Matt Davis frames this expansion as a fundamental shift in workplace geography. While coworking originally gained traction as an urban phenomenon, the rise of hybrid work has created a demand for proximity. Davis argues that professionals increasingly prioritize local access over city-center commutes, a trend supported by JLL projections suggesting that flexible space could account for 30% of all office inventory by 2030.

Beyond providing desk space, the company operates as a community anchor through its Impact and Boost scholarship programs. These initiatives currently support over 700 nonprofits and 165 startups. A notable ongoing project involves a partnership with Star House to renovate 62 apartments at Carol Stewart Village, aimed at providing stable housing for local youth. By integrating these social impact projects with flexible workspace, COhatch aims to differentiate itself as a lifestyle brand rather than a simple real estate provider.
