Somnigroup International Reports Mixed Second Quarter Results

Somnigroup International Inc. reported a 3% decline in total net sales to $1.82 billion for the second quarter of 2026, even as the bedding giant saw its net income climb 12% to $110.9 million. The company navigated a challenging retail environment while preparing for upcoming acquisitions and product launches.

The Dallas-based company, which operates under brands including Tempur-Pedic and Mattress Firm, posted earnings per diluted share of $0.52, a 10.6% increase compared to the same period last year. Despite the dip in overall revenue, gross margins expanded to 44.8%, up from 44% in the second quarter of 2025. Chairman and CEO Scott Thompson attributed the performance to the team's ability to execute in a volatile market while continuing to invest in brand development and distribution platforms.

Segment performance varied across the company's portfolio. Mattress Firm net sales fell 2.8% to $922.2 million, a decline the company linked primarily to store closures. Meanwhile, the Tempur Sealy North America segment faced market headwinds that led to a 5.7% drop in reported net sales. However, the company remains focused on growth, with a $2.5 billion all-stock acquisition of component manufacturer Leggett & Platt expected to close by the end of the third quarter. Looking ahead, Somnigroup revised its full-year 2026 adjusted earnings guidance to a range of $2.85 to $3.15 per share, citing potential risks from geopolitical instability and trade policy shifts.
