The two laboratories will maintain distinct facilities, instrumentation, and staff to ensure service continuity for cultivators and patients. By centralizing administrative and back-office functions, the companies intend to slash the overhead costs that have threatened their viability. Allen Whitt, CEO of Steep Hill, will lead the combined entity, while Hatem Mourad, MD, will continue to guide Alchemy Analytics operations.
Market reality prompted this shift. Mississippi officials initially projected 100,000 patient cardholders by the program's third year, but current figures sit at 69,476. With only two labs left standing from an initial field of seven, the high fixed costs of maintaining ISO 17025 accreditation and specialized equipment became unsustainable for independent operations. This consolidation ensures that testing remains available statewide without disrupting existing client relationships or compliance standards.
