John Paulk Joins Old Republic Excess & Surplus as COO

Chicago-based Old Republic International has appointed industry veteran John Paulk as the new Chief Operating Officer for its Excess & Surplus division. Paulk, who brings more than two decades of executive experience to the firm, will report directly to division President Ralph Sabbagh to oversee performance optimization.

Paulk arrives at the specialty insurer with a background focused on the Excess & Surplus sector and a reputation for managing high-performance teams. His primary mandate involves driving operational efficiency as the company seeks to expand its footprint in the specialty insurance market. Craig Smiddy, President and CEO of Old Republic International, indicated that the new leadership alignment is designed to accelerate the division's growth.

Old Republic, which traces its history back to 1923, maintains a presence across the United States and Canada through its property, casualty, and title insurance units. This executive move represents a broader effort by the Fortune 500 company to bolster its specialized underwriting services and risk management capabilities.
