Assaí Hits R$ 21.4 Billion Revenue Amid Deleveraging Push

With over 40 million monthly visits, Assaí has posted a 2.4% revenue increase to R$ 21.4 billion for the second quarter of 2026. The Brazilian retailer navigated a difficult macroeconomic environment by focusing on market share gains and achieving its lowest financial leverage levels since 2021.

The company’s recurring net income reached R$ 344 million, underpinned by a 3.4% rise in customer traffic and a 0.3 percentage point gain in same-store market share. Operational efficiency proved central to these results, as Assaí generated R$ 3.3 billion in operating cash, representing a margin of 17.1%. This fiscal discipline allowed the company to reduce its financial leverage to 2.37x, marking a 0.8x decline over the last twelve months.

CEO Belmiro Gomes credited the performance to disciplined capital allocation and a moderated pace of physical expansion. Beyond core retail, the company is diversifying its revenue streams through the launch of Assaí Farma units in São Paulo and the introduction of 30 new private-label products. Digital transformation efforts also accelerated, highlighted by a 237% surge in last-mile sales via iFood and the initiation of a fulfillment marketplace pilot on Mercado Livre.
