ADNOC Struggles to Secure Hormuz Corridor Amid Surge in Vessel Attacks

Fifteen commercial vessels operated by the Abu Dhabi National Oil Company have been targeted by missiles or drones since the onset of regional hostilities, resulting in one death and twenty injuries. The mounting security crisis now threatens the stability of one of the world’s most critical maritime energy chokepoints.

ADNOC Struggles to Secure Hormuz Corridor Amid Surge in Vessel Attacks

The Strait of Hormuz, a vital artery for one-fifth of global oil consumption, has become a high-risk zone for ADNOC as it struggles to maintain the flow of crude and refined products. With three vessels struck in the past week alone, the company described the current operating environment as exceptionally challenging, forcing a difficult balance between meeting customer obligations and safeguarding personnel.

Despite the frequent disruption to maritime traffic and the resulting spike in freight costs, ADNOC is aggressively scaling its logistics capabilities. The firm announced a $1.3 billion acquisition of eleven large-scale carriers, including six very large crude carriers and five gas carriers. These additions, scheduled to enter service primarily within this quarter, are designed to support a broader strategy of increasing export volumes. While the UAE has utilized loading points like Fujairah to bypass the strait, the company continues to navigate the waterway, insisting that the international community must uphold the freedom of navigation to prevent further energy market volatility.
