The project, supported by the Growth Markets Funds II, features 420 MWdc of solar photovoltaic capacity coupled with a 150 MW battery storage system capable of five-hour discharge. Mexico’s Ministry of Energy has officially designated the initiative as strategic, prioritizing its role in reducing grid congestion and increasing network resilience in a region facing rising energy demand.

Nasir Khan, head of Real Assets and Global Trade Americas at Natixis CIB, noted the project’s importance as one of the first to receive this strategic classification. For Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners, which manages approximately €37 billion in energy infrastructure, La Esperanza represents its first construction-ready project in Mexico. Peter Halmø, head of Latin America at CIP, emphasized that integrating battery storage is essential for successfully incorporating renewable energy into the national grid and advancing the transition toward a lower-carbon power system.
