Citigroup Recruits Morgan Stanley Veteran to Lead French Operations

After more than three decades at Morgan Stanley, Jean-Baptiste Charlet is moving to Citigroup to oversee the bank’s French business. The appointment, announced Monday, places the HEC Paris graduate at the helm of the firm’s strategy in France, tasking him with managing both country operations and banking activities.

Charlet joins Citigroup with a reputation for deep client relationships and a robust track record in the European market. The bank’s leadership highlighted his ability to navigate complex deal-making, citing his extensive experience as a primary asset for their regional expansion. Before his long tenure at Morgan Stanley, Charlet served a year in the French Navy, a background the bank believes complements his leadership style.

This shift marks a significant acquisition of talent for Citigroup as it looks to strengthen its footprint in Paris. The move signals a clear intent to leverage Charlet’s local expertise to sharpen their competitive edge in France’s financial sector.
