Rouble-denominated A7A5 stablecoin hits $140 billion in turnover

Since its February 2025 launch, the A7A5 rouble-backed stablecoin has processed nearly $140 billion in transactions. Pyotr Fradkov, CEO of PSB Bank, identifies the asset as the largest non-dollar stablecoin currently in operation, serving as a primary settlement tool for Russian firms navigating international trade under heavy Western sanctions.

The A7 platform, which supports the coin, processes approximately 2,000 payments daily for a client base of 15,000 regular users. According to PSB, 90% of these transactions involve Asian markets, with China serving as the dominant partner. While the U.S., EU, and Britain have targeted the infrastructure with restrictive measures, Fradkov maintains that the system was engineered specifically to withstand such pressure by utilizing a distributed network of settlement centers and partner financial institutions rather than relying on a single route or country.

Ilan Shor, the Moldovan businessman and co-owner of the platform, has previously emphasized that the project remains undeterred by international sanctions. The bank claims the infrastructure is profitable, asserting that the primary objective of the A7 settlement mechanism remains the maintenance of cross-border operations regardless of external political interference. By operating through a web of legal and trading structures, the developers aim to ensure payment continuity for their clients even if the parent institutions face recurring penalties.
