i-80 Gold Pushes Ahead with Nevada Expansion Amid Rising Costs

As i-80 Gold Corp. ramps up its Granite Creek mine and prepares for major construction at the Lone Tree processing plant, the company reported a $52.5 million net loss for the second quarter of 2026, driven largely by heavy investment in ongoing development and exploration across its Nevada assets.

While production climbed to 11,098 ounces of gold compared to 4,178 ounces in the same period last year, the company continues to navigate the high costs associated with its aggressive growth strategy. Revenues reached $24.3 million, supported by a realized gold price of $4,522 per ounce, though this figure was tempered by processing delays at a third-party facility. CEO Richard Young emphasized that the company remains on schedule, with the Archimedes underground mine slated for its first gold production in the fourth quarter of this year.

The firm is currently pivoting its development plan, including a shift toward new surface infrastructure at the Archimedes site and the ongoing refurbishment of the Lone Tree Plant. Despite the increased net loss—up from $30.2 million in the second quarter of 2025—management maintains it is on track to meet its full-year production guidance. Capital expenditures for the quarter hit $21.5 million, largely channeled into the Lone Tree project, which is intended to transform i-80 Gold into a self-sufficient mid-tier producer by reducing reliance on external toll milling. With $464.6 million in cash and equivalents remaining, the company is continuing to advance its technical studies for both the Granite Creek and Cove underground projects, scheduled for completion throughout the remainder of 2026.
