Aureka Biotechnologies Secures $100 Million to Advance Biological AI

Aureka Biotechnologies has closed a $100 million Series B funding round, bringing its total capital raised to nearly $200 million. The company plans to deploy these funds to scale its biological foundation models and expand its "Lab-in-the-Loop" infrastructure, which integrates experimental data directly into the drug discovery process.

The Laguna Hills and Shanghai-based firm, founded in 2023, aims to move beyond incremental efficiency gains in drug development. By creating a closed-loop system where AI models and physical laboratory experiments reinforce one another, Aureka is building what CEO Dr. Weian Zhao describes as a "biological world model." This system is designed to simulate complex molecular interactions, allowing for the autonomous generation and validation of therapeutic candidates.

Central to this strategy is AuraIDE, the company’s proprietary foundation model, which has demonstrated strong performance in protein structure prediction and de novo molecular design. Aureka has already leveraged this technology to secure partnerships with several global pharmaceutical companies, generating tens of millions in revenue over the past two years. The new capital will accelerate the co-evolution of these models with the company’s high-throughput screening platforms, targeting difficult-to-treat conditions that have historically frustrated conventional R&D methods.

The Series B round was funded by Granite Asia, with additional backing from HighLight Capital and existing investors including MPCi and NRL Capital. As the industry shifts toward data-heavy, AI-native R&D, Aureka intends to use the investment to cement its position in the competitive landscape of generative biology, moving from simple structure prediction toward the active simulation of living systems.
