Huya Returns to Profitability Amid Strategic Pivot

Huya Inc. reported a return to profitability in the second quarter of 2026, posting a net income of RMB1.6 million against a loss of RMB5.5 million in the same period last year. The Guangzhou-based firm credits this financial turnaround to a deliberate shift toward game-related services and publishing.

Total net revenues rose 11% to RMB1.74 billion, bolstered by a 54.1% surge in game-related services, advertising, and other revenues. This segment now accounts for over 36% of the company's total intake, signaling the success of Huya's efforts to diversify beyond its traditional live streaming core, which saw a slight decline to RMB1.1 billion.

Acting CEO Junhong Huang highlighted the performance of the mobile title Goose Goose Duck, which regained a top-five spot on the Chinese Apple App Store late in July. The company is leaning further into this content-led model, with titles like The Legend of Swordman: Reunion and Xiao Xiao Qi Yu currently in the pipeline. CFO Raymond Peng Lei noted that the board has doubled the company's 2026 share repurchase authorization from US$50 million to US$100 million, citing confidence in the firm’s long-term business trajectory.
