The initiative targets the documentation gap by providing individuals with verifiable digital credentials, a personal wallet for control, and a platform to navigate institutional services. By leveraging W3C standards and decentralized identifiers, the system allows refugees and displaced populations to prove their identity and professional history to banks, governments, and educational institutions. This shift moves the focus from emergency aid toward long-term self-reliance.

Founder and board chair Colin Walsh noted that the organization is prioritizing the 117.8 million forcibly displaced people currently facing the most acute barriers to integration. Following human-centered research led by IDEO.org, the project is moving into active pilot programs within Colombia and Kenya. The infrastructure is designed to remain inspectable and open-source, ensuring that the technology can be adapted by multilateral institutions to serve broader populations beyond the initial deployment corridors.
