Planet Green Targets Chinese Lactoferrin Market Expansion

With global demand for the immune-boosting protein lactoferrin surging, New York-based Planet Green Holdings is moving to secure its supply chain. The company, which utilizes the glycoprotein in its chewable tablets, is now expanding its operations to distribute the ingredient directly to the rapidly growing Chinese market.

Planet Green is currently in advanced negotiations to hire a Chief Scientist from a top-tier U.S. academic institution. This new executive will oversee strategic investments in product development and joint ventures, focusing on high-quality sourcing to meet demand in China, which currently accounts for 22% of the $300 million global market.

Lactoferrin, often referred to as "Pink Gold" due to its high commercial value and distinct hue, remains difficult to produce. Traditional extraction from bovine milk is costly and yield-limited, while newer precision fermentation methods remain in early developmental stages. CEO Zhou Bin noted that by securing access to high-purity supply, the company expects to gain a significant competitive advantage as the Chinese market for the supplement is projected to surpass $100 million in annual sales by 2030.
