Boulevard Bio Emerges from Stealth with $65 Million for Immunology

New York-based Boulevard Bio has launched with $65 million in funding from Deerfield Management, aiming to transform the treatment of B cell-driven autoimmune diseases. The startup, incubated within Deerfield’s internal research engine, is moving forward with a pipeline of multi-specific antibodies designed to offer durable disease control.

The company’s lead candidate, BLVD101, is a bispecific antibody targeting BAFF and APRIL, currently under development for IgA nephropathy. Early Phase 1 data from healthy volunteers indicate that the drug is well-tolerated and supports a quarterly dosing schedule, a significant improvement over the frequent treatment regimens that currently burden patients. According to CEO Mahesh Karande, the firm’s strategy focuses on addressing the underlying biological drivers of chronic illness rather than merely managing symptoms.

Boulevard’s scientific foundation rests on the work of rheumatology expert Prof. Georg Schett and Deerfield partner Dr. Frank Nestle. Their approach prioritizes precision medicine, utilizing multi-target strategies to reach key disease mechanisms. Beyond BLVD101, the company is advancing BLVD201, a trispecific T cell engager acquired from METiS TechBio, and BLVD301, a candidate targeting a novel combination of B cell markers. The $65 million financing will support these programs as the company works to transition its research into clinical-stage therapies.
