Hydro One Reports Earnings Growth Amid Executive Transition

Hydro One Limited posted second-quarter earnings of $0.62 per share, up from $0.54 a year ago, as the company navigated a leadership change and expanded its infrastructure portfolio. Megan Telford officially took the helm as President and CEO on June 9, succeeding the retiring David Lebeter during a period of rising demand.

The utility provider’s net income attributable to common shareholders reached $370 million for the quarter ending June 30, 2026, compared to $327 million in the same period last year. Revenue growth was primarily driven by Ontario Energy Board-approved rates and increased peak demand, which offset higher financing charges and rising operation and maintenance costs. While capital investments for the quarter totaled $812 million, the company prioritized expanding its footprint through several major transmission projects, including the Red Lake Transmission Line and the Northeast Power Line.

Financial flexibility was a central theme for the quarter, marked by a $1.0 billion inaugural U.S. debt offering. This move aims to diversify capital sources as the firm continues to address aging infrastructure and facilitate new load connections. Despite higher work program expenditures related to emergency power restoration and maintenance, the company maintains its dividend commitment, declaring a quarterly payout of $0.3531 per share payable in late September.
