Degree Rebrands NYC Subway Stations to Highlight Summer Commute Heat

Renaming Union Square as "Sweat Central" and 34th Street as "Molten Core," Degree Deodorant is launching a targeted campaign across the New York City subway system. The initiative aims to address the sweltering reality of summer transit by offering commuters product samples and complimentary rides through August 16.

The campaign targets three major transit hubs—West 4th, Union Square, and 34th Street—with signage that leans into the humor of New York’s notoriously hot underground environment. Beyond the station makeovers, Degree is distributing limited-edition sticks of its Advanced antiperspirant. Select samples include a decal that functions as a voucher for a free subway ride, directly tying the product to the commuter experience.

Chris Symmes, Head of Marketing for Degree, described the activation as a way to meet consumers during the most active, high-sweat moments of their day. The brand is also crowdsourcing additional station nicknames via Reddit, with plans to feature user-submitted content in future social and out-of-home advertisements. The promotion, which runs through August 16, highlights the brand’s 72-hour protection technology, positioning the product as a solution for the specific stresses of urban transit.
