Haloid Links ChatGPT Voice to Analog Radio Fleets

Stony Brook-based Haloid Solutions has successfully integrated OpenAI’s real-time voice AI with legacy land mobile radio systems, allowing field personnel to interact with artificial intelligence using standard hardware. The technology enables radio users to perform complex tasks like language translation and vehicle lookups without replacing their existing communication infrastructure.

The system relies on a combination of off-the-shelf hardware and custom software to bridge analog, P25, and DMR radios with the OpenAI Realtime API. By acting as a virtual dispatcher on a shared channel, the AI platform handles information requests, call logging, and transcription alongside routine traffic. Because the integration operates primarily as a software layer, it connects directly to existing enterprise tools, such as asset tracking and work-order databases, enabling voice-driven queries that return live information to the field. John Pershing, Managing Director at Haloid, stated that the goal is to democratize AI access for organizations of all sizes, from small churches to large police agencies, without requiring massive capital outlays. Haloid is currently inviting government and commercial entities to participate in a beta program for custom software development and production integration.
