Fifteen low-income, first-generation college students in Illinois have been awarded a total of $360,000 in scholarships from the CME Group Foundation. The foundation will host a Day of Recognition and Market Education to connect this year's cohort with industry professionals and explore career paths within the financial services sector. For many recipients, the financial support represents a shift from survival-focused education to professional development. Melise Sever, a computer science major at Stevens Institute of Technology, noted that the grant allowed her to transition from a grueling daily three-hour commute to living on campus, fundamentally changing her academic trajectory.

Since its inception seven years ago, the scholarship program has assisted 138 students across 13 partner institutions. CME Group Chairman and CEO Terry Duffy emphasized that the initiative serves as a direct investment in the future workforce, targeting individuals who are historically underrepresented in STEM fields. The current scholars hail from a range of institutions including Loyola University Chicago, DePaul University, and the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.
