RTW Management Drivers and Staff Join Teamsters Local 186

Twenty-two public transportation employees at RTW Management, Inc. in Camarillo have voted to join Teamsters Local 186, signaling the start of a push for their first collective bargaining agreement. The unit, comprising drivers and maintenance dispatchers, aims to secure wage increases and standardized workplace protections through formal union representation.

The successful vote transitions the staff from at-will employment to a collective status under the Teamsters banner. Abel Garcia, Secretary-Treasurer of Local 186, noted that the move provides members with the leverage necessary to negotiate improved working conditions and pay scales that were previously unavailable. Local 186, which oversees labor interests across Ventura and Santa Barbara Counties, is currently preparing to open discussions with company management to establish the terms of their inaugural contract.

For staff members, the vote represents a shift in job security and professional standing. Jim Gaines, a driver at the company, stated that the organization gives workers a direct voice in their future, shifting the dynamic between the workforce and the employer. With the certification process complete, the union is now moving to formalize bargaining sessions to address the specific needs of the dial-a-ride, fixed-route, and maintenance personnel.
